Improve Your Sleep With These 4 Tips

Getting a good night’s rest is important and it should be prioritized. Improve your sleep quality and feel better. These four tips below are designed to help you achieve a restful sleep.

  • Maintain a sleep schedule

Healthy habits start with repetition. Try implementing the same sleep and wake schedule everyday (yes, including weekends). Doing so will help your body get into a routine. When we go to bed and get up at different times, we can confuse our body about when it should be resting. Plan backward from your wake-up time, budgeting 7-9 hours of sleep each night.

  • Unplug yourself

At least 30 minutes before bedtime, stop using devices that emit blue light (this includes your phone, tv, laptop, etc.). Blue light delays the release of sleep-inducing melatonin, which can increase your attentiveness, and reset your internal clock.

  • Improve your bedroom environment

Take a look at your sleeping setup and analyze what might be keeping you awake. Is the room set to a comfortable temperature? Is there too much noise? Could there be too much light coming in? Try and see what improvements can be made to create a more pleasant and restful space.

  • Relax your body and mind

In addition to a sleep routine, try a pre-sleep routine to help you relax. Try finding an activity to help you unwind – whether it’s taking a nice bath or shower (or simply soaking your feet), listening to calming music, reading a book, or meditating before bed.
