Why eye health is important
Protecting our eyes is important—but sometimes we can forget about them when we think about our overall health. By keeping an eye on your ocular health, you can help prevent conditions like cataracts, macular degeneration, other eye diseases.
Support your sight with these four simple tips:
Take a break from screens
Staring at a screen for long periods of time can dry your eyes and cause your vision to blur or become strained. Try to follow the 20-20-20 rule—for every 20 minutes spent looking at a screen, take a break and look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. In addition, take a break from screens every 2 hours for 15 minutes.
Wear sunglasses
Exposure to UV rays can cause damage to your cornea and retina and can lead to eye problems such as cataracts. Protect your eyes with a good pair of sunglasses, preferably ones with wraparound edges that provide extra protection. Bailey Nelson has tons of great sunglass styles to choose from.
Protect your eyes
Protective eyewear keeps your eyes safe from dust, debris, or injury—in and outside of the workplace. Wearing eye protection when doing household activities, like mowing the lawn or using power tools, shields your eyes from potential injury. If you play sports, add in extra defense by using goggles or helmet shields to your gear.
Don't forget your vitamins
Vitamin A, an excellent supplement for eye health, contains rhodopsin and can be found in leafy green vegetables, carrots, and bell peppers. Without Vitamin A seeing well in low light conditions can become challenging. Vitamin C, which is full of antioxidants and is found in select fruits and vegetables, keeps your cornea and sclera in good condition.
